Sitting above 900 metres in the northern Axarquía, Alfarnate fills with cherry blossom in spring. Its orchards and fruit have earned it the nickname 'the Jerte of Málaga'.
What grows here
Cherry trees grown for fruit, helped by the altitude and cold winters. The village turned to cherries some forty years ago, and the crop is picked in late spring.

Did you know?
Alfarnate is the only village in the province of Málaga that grows cherries. For its Sakura festival, inspired by Japanese hanami, residents decorate the streets with tens of thousands of handmade paper flowers.
