In the Contraviesa hills of the Granada Alpujarra, almond trees blossom on old stone terraces among olive groves, vineyards and farmsteads around Torvizcón, Almegíjar, Albondón and Murtas. The bloom arrives in late February and early March, with Sierra Nevada as a backdrop.
What grows here
Rain-fed almond trees grown for their nuts, on terraces shared with olives, vines and figs on the slopes of the Contraviesa. No reliable figure for the area under almonds has been found.
