In the Ribeira Sacra, along the Miño around Belesar, between Chantada and O Saviñao, cherry trees blossom scattered among terraced vineyards. Rather than large orchards, thousands of individual trees line the riverbanks.
What grows here
Cherry trees grown for fruit on small plots on both banks of the Miño (Chantada and O Saviñao). According to the local press, there are half as many trees as in the 1970s, although some 600 have been replanted over the past decade.

Did you know?
Belesar is known locally as 'Galicia's little Jerte'. Its cherry fair includes an aturuxo contest, pitting residents from either bank of the Miño against each other in the traditional Galician cry.
