In May and June the north face of the Sierra de Gredos turns yellow with flowering broom. A good starting point is La Plataforma, at the end of the 12 km road that climbs from Hoyos del Espino.
What grows here
Mountain broom (Cytisus oromediterraneus) is a wild shrub over a metre tall with strongly scented yellow flowers. According to the festival organisers, it covers more than 65,000 ha on the northern side of Gredos.
