Live tracking coming soon

We don't track this place live yet. Meanwhile, here is what's worth knowing.

Tens of thousands of bitter orange trees line the streets, squares and gardens of Seville. Around March and April they burst into blossom and the scent of orange flower, known locally as azahar, fills the city.

What grows here

Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), planted as an ornamental street tree. The fruit is far too sour to eat raw; it is cleared from the trees every year, and much of it has traditionally gone into British marmalade.

Did you know?

The bitter orange, native to southern China and India, reached Seville under Moorish rule around the 10th century. Centuries later its fruit gave its name to the Seville orange marmalade of the British breakfast table.
