Live tracking coming soon

We don't track this place live yet. Meanwhile, here is what's worth knowing.

Eight small villages dot the Vall de Gallinera, inland in Alicante’s Marina Alta. From mid-March to early April the cherry trees whiten its slopes, and the Eight Villages route, a linear walk of about 14 km, links the hamlets.

What grows here

Cherries grown for fruit are the mainstay of the local economy, alongside almonds and olives. Recent harvests have been hard hit by pests such as Drosophila suzukii and by shifting patterns of frost and rainfall.

Did you know?

After the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 the valley was left almost empty, and the Duke of Gandia resettled it with some 150 families from Majorca, whose influence can still be heard in the local dialect.
