The Caderechas valley, in the north-west of La Bureba in Burgos province, turns white with thousands of cherry trees in flower from mid to late April. A limestone ridge shelters it from cold northerly and westerly winds.
What grows here
Cherries and Reineta apples grown for fruit, both with a quality guarantee mark from the Castilla y León regional government. The cherries are among Spain’s latest, picked from June into early August. Varieties include Burlat, Lapins, Summit and Napoleon.

Fruit growing in the valley goes back a long way: the orchards are already mentioned in documents from the monastery of San Salvador de Oña dated 1032.
