More than a million and a half cherry trees cloak the slopes of the Jerte valley in Cáceres province in white each spring. The blossom opens first on the lower ground and gradually climbs up the valley.
What grows here
Cherries grown for fruit. The Cereza del Jerte PDO covers picotas (Ambrunés, Pico Limón Negro, Pico Negro and Pico Colorado) and stalked cherries (Navalinda, Burlat, Van and Lapins).

Jerte picota cherries are sold without stalks: when picked by hand, the stalk stays on the tree and the fruit seals itself naturally where it was attached.
